After twenty years of undertaking search mapping the traditional way, we were recently persuaded to check out a specialist mapping tool. Okay, we expected to be surprised and impressed, the system has quite a reputation….. but speed isn’t everything and more would be needed to persuade us to change our ways….

Already aware of some of the new system’s capabilities having been tipped off by a client, we were eager to have a full run through and try it for ourselves. However, one thing we have always loved about traditional mapping is taking the time to get a feel for firms, and potential lawyers who might suit our clients. The rolling-up-of-sleeves! Having a machine that produces huge lists at the speed of light… well that may sound great to some, but how would that work with our processes in practice?

We very quickly realised that the amount of time we could save with the new system, would allow us to incorporate all our traditional methods of search mapping and ‘bespoke tailoring’, but on a broader scale.

So here we are with a combination of the old and the very new, finding a way to combine methods, keep the feel, flow, and rhythm of our traditional way of working, with a supersonic mapping tool. It will take some getting used to, it is not a natural process, it needs careful consideration, frequent stops to survey the broader landscape because we want to ensure that both quality and delivery are enhanced, otherwise what’s the point?
